A Novel Dual-Polarized Continuous Transverse Stub Antenna Based on Corrugated Waveguides—Part I: Principle of Operation and Design

Continuous transverse stub (CTS) arrays represent a high-performance and affordable solution for fixed-beam scanning flat antenna systems, though intrinsically linearly polarized. In these the polarization is controlled using add-on converters or combining cross-connected CTS arrays. This two-part article presents novel parallel-fed which achieves dual-linear using, instead, single array two orthogonally polarized excitation fields. this article, it shown that, due to modal coupling, standard parallel-plate waveguides (PPWs) are not suitable as building blocks of proposed antenna. Therefore, an alternative waveguide, corrugated PPW (CPPW) introduced. The dispersion characteristics such CPPW investigated. Guidelines independently design properties propagating modes avoid higher order provided. Based on study, simulated performance Ka-band eight long slots by dual-mode corporate-feed network described. An extensive experimental validation concept presented in Part II.
